AA to launch DFW-Rome and Amsterdam Flights

It looks like folks living in North Texas finally get a few more nonstop flights to Europe starting next summer according to the Dallas Business Journal. American Airlines is launching new nonstop seasonal service starting in May from DFW to Rome and Amsterdam. The service complements existing European service to Frankfurt, London, Madrid, and Paris. The Rome flight will be served by a Boeing 777-200 while the Amsterdam route will be served by a lower capacity aircraft: the Boeing 767-300. I’m assuming AA will run the new routes with refurbished aircraft, but we will just have to wait and see with regard to this.

DFW continues to add international service at break neck speeds as a result of  the region’s rapid economic growth and the airport’s latest incentive to gain additional services. The program includes $1.50 per seat subsidy for new routes and a 25% bonus since both Amsterdam and Rome are seemingly on DFW’s “target” list of destinations.

This is especially exciting for me because DFW is my home airport now and though I think BA Club World is fine, I may still occasionally want the nonstop (esp on the flight home). Kudos to DFW airport for their marketing efforts! I’m still keeping my fingers crossed though for AA to relaunch that nonstop flight to Zurich (Yes I’m always thinking of those Swiss Alps) they had a few years ago or announce a nonstop route to New Delhi (Yes I am a dreamer :)). But I’ll take what I get, I’m not complaining!

Be on the lookout for award seats on these routes. I’ll let you guys know if I see anything.

Cheers!
