Review: Denver Marriott Westminster (Changing Categories Soon!)

We stayed at the Marriott Westminster before heading to Aspen on a recent trip to Colorado. One of the nice things about this hotel has been that it is eligible for the annual free night certificate from the Marriott Rewards Credit Card by Chase. Of course that will no longer be true after March 6, 2018 when the latest Marriott devaluation kicks into place and this hotel moves up to a Category 6 property (Only Cat 1-5 are eligible for annual free night).

Check In:

We arrived at the Marriott a bit late on that Friday evening and lobby was absolutely empty. Check in was a swift process where were handed our keys and our elite benefits were explained. The good thing about Marriott is that even Gold Elite (mid-tier status) members get free breakfast and lounge access at full service Marriott properties.

Executive Club Lounge:

Before I headed to my room, I checked out the executive lounge which is available. The lounge is located right off of the lobby area and accessibly via the usage of your key. The lounge had soft drinks, granola/fruit bars, cocktail nuts, and fruits for peckish guests. There was also plenty of seating next to a fireplace and a business desk area with computers to work on. Nothing out of the ordinary, but still a well designed and modern space.

Executive Club Double Room:

The rooms are standard issue hotel rooms, but with well thought out features, which included abundant bedside outlets, and spotlight lamps attached to the bed. The restroom featured Marriott’s Thann toiletries, and dental kits were available on request.

Breakfast @ Tiller’s Kitchen and Bar

Platinum and Gold members receive access to the buffet breakfast at the hotel restaurant, which is served from 6-9:30am every morning.

The hotel features a decent spread which included oatmeal, pastries, breads, cereals, fruit, and a few hot breakfast items (breakfast potatoes, eggs, etc). If you want pancakes or waffles you have to pay extra off of the menu. I would comment on the service, but it was pretty much nonexistent. The servers brought orange juice or coffee/tea and left the customers to get food from the buffet. The bill wasn’t brought at the end of the meal since they had already confirmed our room numbers.

Fitness Center

This hotel does feature an indoor pool (not for swimming laps) and a decent assortment of cardio and weight equipment in the gym.

Bottom Line:

The Denver Marriott Westminster is a nice enough property with great elite recognition and location since it sits right next to a large mall. I wouldn’t call it the best Marriott property I’ve been to, but it served the purpose of using the annual free night certificate for the occasional Denver overnight. With that being said the lounge and breakfast at this hotel are decent but nothing to write home about so there might be other great value Marriott properties around the city.

The Marriott devaluation brings the totally number of desirable and relatively new Marriott full service properties in the Denver vicinity available for annual free night redemption down to a handful if not less. If you have plans to stay at this property or the vicinity using your annual free night, now is the time to book!
