It’s a sad day when you hear that you can never see one of your fondest memories of the Caribbean again. I can’t imagine a Sint Maarten without that sky blue colored 747 coming down on top of those turquoise waters, vacationers, and excited sun bathers. It truly is an end of an era as my fellow boardingarea blogger, Adam pointed out.

According to the Daily Herald, KLM will be pulling it’s 747 service from Princess Juliana International Airport on Sint Maarten by this Halloween (Oct 30, 2016). The service will be replaced with thrice weekly nonstop service to Amsterdam Schiphol on an Airbus A330 and reduces the travel time between the two airports by 4 hours.

Although local residents and expats will be happy that the flight to Amsterdam no longer stops in Curcao, the breathtaking experience of seeing a 747 over those turquoise waters is an absolute dream. I still can’t imagine that Curcao would be a more popular spot for direct 747 service to Amsterdam, but then again there is a decent amount of airline competition at SXM.

As you all may or may not know, Maho Beach is the ideal place to capture some of the most fantastic landings in the world. The beach is located just feet away from the single runway at Princess Juliana Intl Airport. If you get the chance, I would make it down to the beautiful island of Sint Maarten before the end. This news report is definitely making me feel nostalgic 🙁

Here are just some of the spectacular landings I’ve seen from Maho Beach:

Have you ever been to Maho Beach? If so have you seen this behemoth of the sky land?
