Lately springs have truly been full of “April Showers” and severe thunderstorms. As another bout of severe weather whips through the United States, I was reminded of my experience at Denver International Airport exactly one year ago, today. I was on my way back to Dallas from Calgary, when I ran into this storm at Denver airport that was wreaking havoc with flights in the Western United States. We circled the airport many times, seemingly dodging the lightning and heavy rain. It was a rough 20 minutes, and I may have even been scared if not for what I saw out the window. While on one side of the airport there were constant lightning strikes and torrential downpours, the other side was experiencing this amazing afterglow from the sun setting behind the Rockies. As soon as we landed, I made a run for a location at the edge of the terminal from where I could see the entire airport operations. That’s where I captured these two images (sorry I suppose it should be travel photos of the week). It was an ill-advised, impromptu shoot, but I came away with two decent images to share here, before I had to sprint for my connecting flight.

Denver airport is certainly one of the more picturesque major airports in the world with the backdrop of the Rockies and taxiways/runways facing westwards. What do you think is the most picturesque major airport?
