While staying in Canmore on my last visit to Banff, my family stayed at an Airbnb located in the Summit at Grand Rockies Condo Complex. As usual Airbnb offers great value compared to hotels especially in popular destinations like Banff during the summer. And there was absolutely no way to get an accommodation for 7 people in a hotel at a reasonable price anyway. All in I paid approximately $460/night for this large penthouse with 3 bedroms and 2 bath.
The property takes up 3 levels in the condo complex at the summit. The entryway is located on the second floor along with a coat closet. A flight of stairs led to the master bedroom on the third floor and another flight of stairs led down to the main floor with the kitchen, living room, and 2 bedrooms.
Upon descending the flight of stairs is the kitchen and dining area along with an adjacent living room. The apartment was furnished incredibly well and it was well equipped for any amount of cooking you may want to undertake during your visit. Right next to the kitchen is a small seating area with a single couch and coffee table.
Adjacent to the dining area and kitchen was a living room with a big screen television and a comfortable seating area. The TV is a Samsung “SMART” model with built in apps such as YouTube and Netflix which can be operated using your smartphone.
Attached to the living area is a covered balcony with stunning views of the iconic Three Sisters. It was the perfect place to set up my tripod and take a time lapse as clouds passed by. It’s also an ideal place to enjoy morning breakfast or afternoon tea while soaking in the views.
On the other side of the main floor was a hallway leading to two bedrooms (one with 2 Queen beds) and a large bathroom which had the washer and dryer. The oddest part may have been the shower, which turned out to be a car wash of a tub rather than your traditional stand in shower. The only downside was that water temperature wasn’t exactly the hottest it could be.
On the top floor (third floor) was the master bedroom with its single attached bathroom. There is also a chaise lounge chair and another TV located up there.
Wi-Fi during our stay was fairly fast, at least there was no slow down in streaming services. Also, I forgot to mention that the hosts, Ariane and Bill, were very responsive with any questions and issues we had during our stay. They are rightfully labeled as “Superhosts” on Airbnb.
Of course Canmore itself is one of the most stunning Alpine towns in the world. I’ll have a full post on that later, but here are a couple of images of the area around the Airbnb.
Bottom Line:
Ariane and Bill’s Airbnb listing is one of the finest places to stay in the Banff National Park area. The place was clean, modern, spacious, and suited well for families. The location of the apartment lends itself to great views of the Three Sisters and the place is a stone’s throw away from the Trans-Canada highway and the town centre. Prices in Canmore, for all types of food and supplies, are also comparatively much less than the adjacent town of Banff so it makes for an ideal base to explore the area. I shall definitely be returning here if I stay with family, and of course as long as the daily rate is competitive enough. I would definitely recommend the place when traveling as a group.
While they may have been super hosts in 2018, they are now law breaking scam artists. Do not trust these people. Do not trust this posting on air bnb
