We finished off our time in Italy with a quick stay at the Sheraton Milan Malpensa. Our United flight to Newark left early the following morning so it was an absolute ‘no brainer’ to avoid the sometimes hour long journey to Malpensa. This is especially true because the hotel is conveniently attached to the main terminal at Malpensa.

Arrival/Check In:
Since the hotel is a conference hotel, checking in was absolutely annoying. Despite having a separate line for SPG Elites, the front desk continually ignored the line and checked everyone in the standard line first. I luckily stood in the standard line and got a chance to check in before they called my dad over. There really wasn’t any acknowledgement of our Platinum benefits or upgrade, though I could see on the app that my parents were upgraded to a junior suite while we were in a Club Twin Room. We weren’t really bothered considering that I already knew what was available to us.
Exercise Room or Junior Suite
Our rooms were located on the club floor, and my parents were assigned a very odd Junior Suite. I say odd because the room had vast amounts of open space along with a weight lifting machine and a broken exercise bike.I had no idea that Sheraton now had workout rooms like Westin. Other than the oddity of having an under-furnished suite, there really wasn’t much to complain about. The room was modern, fresh, clean, and had free high speed WiFi. The toiletries as always were Sheraton “Shine” branded, which are nice enough, but really unremarkable.
Club Twin Room
The Club Twin room was located just a few doors away from the junior suite and was fairly spacious and modern. The room featured glorious views of the front parking lot somewhat embellished by the Alps in the distance. If you have a telephoto lens, you can get some decent shots of Monte Rosa in the morning when it is relatively clear.
The Sheraton “Sweet Sleeper” Beds were extremely comfortable, and we were able to get a good night’s rest before our flight.
The Corridors:
I felt especially obligated to write about the corridors of the hotel because they were gigantic and belonged in an airport terminal rather than inside a hotel. I’m not quite sure what the architect was thinking when he wasted so much space in the central area of the hotel. The corridors often looked out into the parking lot or the fascist era Malpensa terminal building across the street.
Sheraton-Malpensa Club Lounge
One of the benefits of having the SPG AMEX business card is club lounge access at all Sheraton properties. While the evening and breakfast spread at the lounge didn’t compare to those you found in Asia, it was pretty darn good for a European property and certainly makes this hotel very good value for the money.
Evening Snacks at the Club Lounge
The evening snack assortment included a variety of hot bites, cakes, nuts, chips, soft drinks, and spirits. Service was extremely attentive and plates were cleared immediately and drinks were often refilled without having to ask. I particularly liked the Mango Mousse cake that they had one offer and prob ate a slice too many 🙂
The decor, ambiance, and overall service at the lounge indicates that the lounge is a step above what you would normally find at a Sheraton hotel lounge.
Breakfast at the Club Lounge
Breakfast is served in the Club Lounge every morning from 6:30am to 10:30am and features a great assortment of cereals, pastries, breads, juices, and hot items for a club lounge. I really wasn’t too hungry so I just stuck to the picture taking rather than the eating part of it.
Checkout and Departure
I mention checkout in my report because it was a fair bit of a nuisance given that the front desk had little consideration for the SPG Elite line yet again. Seriously guys, why even bother having one in the first place? Anyway after checkout we walked across to Malpensa Airport Terminal for our United flight back home.
Bottom Line:
The Sheraton Milan-Malpensa is perhaps not the most refined or soulful airport hotel, but it certainly is a very good one in terms of location, convenience, cleanliness, and overall service (except the front desk). The club lounge is among the better ones I’ve seen in the Western hemisphere, and the hotel has some decent views of the Alps to the North. This will easily be my go to hotel in the area considering that there are no comparable ones in the near vicinity of the airport. Nightly rates at this hotel range from $120-$150, judging by my recent searches and so coupled with a SPG AMEX Business Card, it could very much be a great value proposition for quick overnights. For the record, I paid with points on my specific stay (hotel rates were well over $250 due to a conference going on).
Thanks for the detailed review!

I worked out at the fitness center at that hotel for 15 Euro on a layover a few years ago. Here are my notes. http://willrunformiles.boardingarea.com/airport-layover-workout-malpensa-sheraton-fitness-center/#sthash.CYl0I4BJ.dpbs
Nice Kathy, though the equipment looks like it can use some refurbishment. 🙂 Despite being there longer than you, I never made it to the gym.
