The Haystack Rock of Cannon Beach is probably one of the most recognisable sights of the Pacific Coastline. At 72 metres (234 feet) high, Cannon Beach claims it to be the ‘third largest monolith’ in the world. This claim is a bit dubious since there is another Haystack rock on Oregon’s coast itself that is 30 m (100 feet) taller. Regardless of its size, one cannot deny the spectacular beauty of this iconic beach. I was lucky enough to go there at sunset at low tide when there were plenty of tidepools. The dramatic tsunami of clouds just added to the stunning scene.
