As bloggers we often rave about how great the British Airways award chart is for travel on American Airlines. It’s an awesome deal, but is it as great as the deal that Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan offers on certain Virgin America flights? Probably not.
Bloggers have written about this, but I’m not sure it gets the coverage it deserves given that a roundtrip from Dallas/Seattle – San Francisco only costs 10,000 points roundtrip! And let’s not forget that many of you hopefully have Alaska miles laying around from creating a Mileage Plan account last year. 10,000 miles usually doesn’t get you much even on Alaska Airlines since most domestic award flights are 12.5k, but there are some Virgin America flights, which are only 5k each way.
And that’s how my quick weekend trip to San Francisco was possible. These deals seem to be available even on some Thursday evenings and Friday afternoons!
Out of Dallas these deals are available to: SFO, LAX, DCA only on Virgin America aircraft.
The odd part is the deals seem to be available to NYC, and SEA if you are willing to take interesting routes or get off the plane at a connection city. So keep searching even if you don’t find what you are looking for immediately.
SEA/PDX/LAX and other Western cities – SFO are also available:
This is an awesome deal considering BA charges 10k miles each way on partner flights from DFW-SFO and 7.5k from SFO-LAX/SEA/PDX and more. However, the deal looks to be only available on Virgin America metal. So if you plan on taking advantage of this deal act now because who knows how many more of these flights will get converted to Alaska Airlines metal. A lot of flights out of Dallas are already on Alaska Airlines planes.
Looking forward to another trip to SF soon. This is perhaps my favorite deal right now out of Dallas.
